Anne Gallagher Smith
Anne is the granddaughter of Eoin Gallagher who lives in America in 2001 when Eoin dies. She travels to Ireland to scatter Eoin's ashes, in accordance with his wishes, and is transported back in time to 1921. Anne is a novelist and has done extensive research on various people and places for her writing, though she has never been to Ireland, the place of Eoin's birth. When she arrives, in 1921, she initially assumes she is dreaming but she winds up remaining there for months, falls in love with Thomas Smith, and cherishes her time with the young Eoin.
Anne is a strong, intelligent character. When she winds up in Ireland in 1921, she is able to pull information from her memory about the time, which gives her foreknowledge of some events. She is able and willing to help the cause of the Irish people who are fighting for independence...
