Summary

It has been two weeks since KB had been able to play with the white children, and when she sees Bobby on roller skates pulling Charlotte in the wagon she joins them, and they are happy to see her. They tell her about a park around the corner, and when she asks to go, they say they are not allowed to play with her. They decide that since their mom is busy at book club, they can get away with going. While at the park, Charlotte asks KB about why she is there, and KB explains her dad’s death, and her family moving. Charlotte whispers to Bobby, and KB thinks something has changed between them. He asks her why she always says, 'ain’t'. She wonders if they do not like her now that they know she does not...
