The U.S. Constitution
Throughout the play, the United States Constitution is a symbol of what is both best and worst about American society and identity. In terms of the former, it represents hope, growth, and the possibility of change. In terms of the latter, it represents oppression, discrimination, and suffering. The persons in the play see it as such, with their commentary and analysis referencing both sides of the Constitution's identity.
Constitutional Amendments
The various Amendments to the Constitution, as author/performer Heidi Schreck portrays them, represent opportunities to get the mistakes in the Constitution correct. They fill in gaps in its considerations, expand considerations that have been found to be too limited, and open the door to further improvements.
