Point of View
In terms of narrative point of view, this play functions somewhat differently from most other plays. In most pieces of theatre, there is usually no central point of view, no narrator telling the story. Instead, meaning and theme and narrative are all revealed as a result of the interactions of the characters as they pursue their various goals and undergo their various journeys of transformation. This play is somewhat different, in that it is essentially a memoir – that is, a narrated consideration of a particular aspect of someone’s life. In this case, that “someone” is author and performer Heidi Schreck, who tells the story of her relationship with the U.S. Constitution to an audience in the same way as she would tell it if she were putting a memoir on the page.
