Summary

Sophie explains to the reader that she has a variety of nicknames. Zak and Danny enjoy calling Sophie “Couch” or “Syphilis”. Sophie’s parent call her “Sophie Dophie” and “Soso”. Rachel and Grace call her “Fifi” or “Fee”. But above all is Dylan, who calls Sophie “Sapphire” because of her eyes, and Sophie absolutely loves this. She says it is the secret password to her heart. Sophie first meets Dylan at one of Zak’s parties, on Labor Day. Rachel’s older sister gives Sophie and her friends a ride home. Sophie has to sit on Rachel’s sister’s friend’s brother’s lap, which was Dylan. Sophie’s body feels electric against Dylan. At one point, she thinks she feels Dylan almost squeeze her waist.
