Pages 1-12 Summary
Robin Murphy, who is the main character of the novel, is also the narrator. He's remembering back how over Christmas break, he landed Sophie Stein, one of the prettiest girls in school, as his girlfriend. Now that they are back at school, Robin thinks that Sophie is going to break up with him. Instead, she surprises him by approaching him and grabbing his hands in the cafeteria. Her two best friends come over and ask her what she's doing and Sophie introduces them to Robin.
Pages 1-12 Analysis
Prior to dating Sophie Stein, Robin Murphy was a guy at school that the kids make fun of. It foreshadows that his life while dating Sophie will change for the better, possibly skyrocketing him to one of the most popular kids in school.
