Sierra

Sierra is the main character and narrator of this novel.

Sierra's parents own a Christmas tree farm in Oregon. Each year just before Thanksgiving they go to California where they operate a lot from which they sell their trees. Sierra goes with them and helps on the lot. The traditions she has known for Christmas have all revolved around the tree lot.

It is during the Christmas of her junior year that Sierra fears her family will not return to California the following year. They have decided that they do not sell enough trees on the lot to make the trip worthwhile. Sierra does not want this year to be her family’s last year at the Christmas tree lot because she has a special gift that she wants to give Heather, her best friend in California. It is the Christmas of their senior year.
