Coming of Age
In many ways, Evie's story is one of coming of age. In a very short period of time, she learns that things are not always as they appear. She realizes how cruel people can be to those who are different, and she realizes her own ability to change to outcome of her own life.
Evie has grown up admiring her beautiful mother and smooth talking step-father. She has learned that the world likes pretty people. One incident in her life that has taught her this lesson is the magazine article in which her mother and step-father are featured on their wedding day.
