Chapters 34 and 35 Summary
In Chapter 34, the headlines in the paper read that Beverly and Joe have been exonerated. They head for home the same day. Evie and her mother look at one another as they walk back into the house that was never really their home. Evie's mother shrugs and Evie wonders if this is what being an adult is all about. Evie watches as her grandmother puts the valise full on money in her closet. Margie is there before Evie even gets unpacked. She suddenly realizes that she doesn't want to be Margie's friend anymore. She tells Margie she doesn't want to talk about it. By the time Evie looks up from hanging a skirt, Margie is gone.
