Chapters 22 and 23 Summary

In Chapter 22, Evie's mother finally tells Evie that she was pregnant with Evie before she and Evie's father were married. Uncle Bill had made Evie's father marry Beverly. She tells Evie that she did love Joe, just not as much as Evie did.

Also in this chapter, Evie decides not to give Joe the letter from Tom because she knows that he will want them to pack up and follow them. She doesn't want that to happen. But Evie has a change in heart when Peter tells Joe that he plans to follow the Graysons to New York since they have old times to talk about. Evie wonders if Peter is giving Joe a veiled threat. It is at this point that Evie realizes that she has to give Joe the letter so that they will follow Peter as well.
