Chapters 8 and 9 Summary
The next morning, Evie is languishing in the memory of her dance in Chapter 8. Peter walks in and introduces himself. He offers to take her to Delray for lunch. She tells him she is only fifteen, believing that he will forget about her, but he asks again. He suggests she go without asking her parents, but her mother comes into the room. Evie introduces the two. He asks Beverly to join them for the trip as well. When Joe joins them, Peter recognizes him and seems to be happy to see him, but Joe doesn't return his friendliness. Peter makes a point of gushing over Beverly and telling her she looks just as Joe described her. He prompts Evie into telling that Joe has three appliance stores. Joe suggests that Beverly and Evie go upstairs while he talks with Pete alone...
