Summary
Oprah Winfrey was born out of wedlock as the result of a onetime union between her parents. Her birth was marked by "regret, hiding, and shame" and she had a very lonely childhood, often feeling unworthy. Since then, she has learned that "we are each responsible for our own life" (33). When faced with life's challenges, she recommends that one adjust their metaphorical footing and bring themselves back to the present moment.
For years, Oprah hid the fact that she was sexually abused as a child and gave birth at 14, to a baby who only lived a few weeks.
