Chapters 5-8 Summary
Chapter 5
When Chapter 5 begins, Mclean wakes up to the sound of people playing basketball. She goes into the kitchen, and a ball rolls through the door. It is a wild throw. Her phone rings, and it's her mother who is extremely concerned because Mclean had never called her back the previous day. Mclean explains that her father had been in the hospital and she forgot. This makes the mother very upset. She talks about how upset she is that Mclean is always traveling around and has to act as a caretaker to the father, even having to leave school to get insurance papers.
During the phone call, Mclean gets increasingly upset, and when the ball rolls away once again, she throws it at the basket making a very complex shot that completely impresses Dave and his friend who are playing basketball...
