Summary
Chapter 13
Elisabeth and Alice start looking around the house for clues. They discover an invitation for a cocktail party for the kindergarten parents. Alice asks if Elisabeth usually goes to these events, but she doesn’t since they are for mothers. Alice is surprised that Elisabeth still isn’t a mother, assuming that she must have had a child after the miscarriage. The chapter switches to Elisabeth writing to her doctor. She writes about how she kept trying to have a child with Ben. They wouldn’t announce when they were pregnant because they thought it would jinx the child. Elisabeth kept having miscarriages though, while Alice was successfully having children.
Alice was very supportive of Elisabeth, even while she was having her own children. Elisabeth is surprised to remember how she and Alice cried together after her second miscarriage. Back at the...
