Summary

Chapter 5

The chapter opens with Alice’s grandmother, Frannie, writing a letter to someone named Phil. She’s talking about her past as a teacher, but has to cut the letter off because she has just heard about Alice getting hurt at the gym. Back in the hospital, a child, using a cell phone, asks why Alice didn't pick him up for swim practice. Before Alice can answer, the boy spots "Uncle Ben" and hangs up. Alice starts to panic as she realizes she doesn’t even know what her child is named. She goes through more of her belongings and finds a picture with three children, Olivia, Tom, and Madison, all with her last name, Love. Alice starts to cry when she realizes she has not one, but three children she can’t remember.
