Summary

The day after the typhoon, in “The Man with the Scar”, the meteorologists announced that the storm was named Laura. Geumbok called the doctor to look after Geokjeong, but there was little the medic could do. Before the typhoon, Geokjeong had been hauling lumber with a crew of men. When a log slipped, he stood in its path to protect the other men from being hurt. He caught the log easily and tossed it into the water. However, when the support under the pile of logs broke, Geokjeong continued to stand where he was, and the mountain of lumber struck his body mercilessly. Geumbok devoted herself to nursing Geokjeong however she had no money to buy medicine and he grew angry and violent. She worked odd jobs at the wharf. One day the man with the scar asked...
