Summary

In Chapter 51, Altha’s story continues. Altha walked to the Milburns’ farm and climbed the oak tree to see what was happening there. She believed she was doing the right thing when she saw her mother’s crow flying toward her. Altha could tell that the cows were already agitated when John let them out of the barn. Altha watched as the crow flew over the field, working the cows into a frenzy until they trampled and killed John.

Altha ran to John’s body and threw her cloak over it to keep Grace from seeing. Altha told Daniel to go for the doctor and then took Grace inside. As they were sitting together, Altha saw purple bruises on Grace’s wrist.
