Chapter 9 Summary
James is smoking when Abby finds him in the morning. James says that they should go away together, and offers to go to Dublin with her at the weekend. He has obviously researched the options for Dublin, and Abby is both impressed and confused. She says that she'll make a decision by Tuesday, when they would need to book the tickets by. James and Abby go sightseeing, and James reads from the guidebook so that Abby is embarrassed by him. Abby shows him around and "plays the worldly ex-pat, living abroad on her own time and her own terms." (p. 124). James wants to go to the London Eye, a rotating observatory, and Abby goes with him, but says that she is afraid of heights.
James is irritating Abby with his banter and intimacy, but she is awestruck by the view from the top...
