Summary
Elizabeth sees acupuncture studies that show effectiveness is due to placebo as the success of placebos than of the failure of acupuncture. Dr. Sanborne believes that even if their bodies did cure themselves, the pain may have had some purpose to serve, but he does not know what that purpose is. Shortly after this conversation, she meets with a woman who is quite distraught when she learns that she had a placebo and that the effects she experienced were not from the juice cleanse she tried. Elizabeth thinks that telling the woman the truth was more cruel than giving her the placebo was. After Sorbone retires, Elizabeth tells the staff that they will now be utilizing the power of placebos to help people.
