Summary

In “Hello, Goodbye,” Nina and Katie have been friends since college. They had different upbringings but similarly created their histories together (45).

Katie is now married to an older, bullying man named Raymond. Nina is married to Daniel with whom she has two daughters, Ella and Paige. During the COVID lockdown, Katie visits Nina and tells her she is leaving Raymond. The friends reminisce about their past experiences and Katie offers Nina stories she has “saved up from her life” (49). Nina does not like thinking about “the past or the future,” but listens to Katie’s stories, particularly those about her unhappy marriage (50).
