Summary

In Chapter 6, Lizzie decides to stop putting off her dentist visit. All goes well at the dentist and she is given the permanent crown she needed. Lizzie thinks about a group of mythic people called Hyperborean that she once read about. They managed to achieve the safest and happiest of living conditions, but then they grew bored and killed themselves.

Thanks to some pushing from Ben, Lizzie also decides to go to the doctor to have a mole on her arm inspected. The doctor ends up inspecting all of the marks on her body, and repeats the phrase, “Exceedingly unlikely to be cancerous” (208). Lizzie wishes every day could end with such a feeling of reassurance.

Lizzie and Ben decide to make a list of things they will need for doomsday. They consider what living conditions will keep them safe, and end up researching how...
