Summary
Chapters 57-58 are told from the perspectives of the members of the Kurc family that traveled to Italy. In Chapter 57, Mila is anxious about reuniting with Selim, wondering how it will feel, and what he and Felicia will think of one another. Halina is now certain she is pregnant. In Italy, they are taken in by friendly farmers, and Felicia is given a Hershey bar by an American soldier. In Chapter 58, at a train station in Bari, Italy, Halina, Mila, Felicia, Nechuma, and Sol are reunited with Genek and Selim. They celebrate.
In Chapter 59, Jakob, Bella, and their two-month-old son Victor arrive at a Displaced Persons camp in Stuttgart, Germany to await their American emigration paperwork.
