Summary
On the Monday ahead of their December 8 game at Worcester in “Danvers vs. Greenfield” (293), Jen Fiorenza was of the opinion that the team had to work to power up Emilio like never before. Heather Houston agreed and handed out index cards to everyone, instructing them to write “one piece of unfinished business” (294) they had. Heather handed each player a votive candle and told them to set up shrines in their lockers. An hour later, the fire alarm went off. Girl Cory’s locker was incinerated. She told the others that she had left her candle burning while forgetting there was a stack of Seventeen magazines in there, but the rest of the team knew that she really meant a stack of love letters from “Philip.” Before the game that Friday, there were two more fires that each started from a team member...
