Summary
Baker waits nervously on the bleachers of a baseball field in his old hometown. In his narration, he describes how, as part of his quest for friendship, he decided to get back in touch with his old high school classmates. He cites studies referencing how people continue to feel close to the people they went to high school with, even though they might not actually be in contact or spend time together, and even though they be closer to people in their more adult lives.
