Sven's House
Sven's house is located in Kungsgården, a rural municipality in southeastern Sweden. This is also the house where Olof and his sister Ingela grew up. Olof returns to the house at the start of the novel in order to visit his father. As he approaches the house, he encounters the sound of water overflowing and a restless dog. Inside, he is met with a rancid odor. He is shocked to find his father dead in the bathtub.
When Eira first encounters the house, she is investigating the scene of Sven's death, which has been deemed a murder. The house's disarray and disrepair trouble Eira. The image of Sven in the tub amplifies her feelings of sorrow over the profound nature of human loneliness.
After the cops remove the crime tape from the house, Olof sneaks back onto the premises. He stays here with his father's dog...
