Summary

Eira arrived at Ricken’s house, looking for Magnus. Ricken led her out back, asking about the ongoing case. Being near Ricken made Eira think of the past. She and Ricken used to date. Though it had been years ago, Eira knew, the “first [love] was always the first” (143).

Eira sat with Magnus in the yard. They talked about Kerstin. Magnus did not think Eira should put her in a home. He promised to visit more often. When she left, she wished she could stay “with them and remember the old times” (147).
