Summary
Olof drove through his old neighborhood. Memories from his past returned. Finally he arrived at his old family house where his father, Sven Hagström, still lived. Staring at the house reignited his memories. He thought of “walking into the forest,” following Lina (4). She had gotten upset. He remembered "falling headlong into the nettles” (4, Alsterdal’s italics).
Olof heard water running and the sound of a dog inside the house. He let himself in with the spare key. The house reeked. In the bathroom, he found the tub overflowing, Sven’s dead body inside. He raced back to the car.
While driving, he noticed the dog in the road. He stopped to help it. A man approached, introducing himself as Patrik Nydalen. Olof was edgy, but admitted that he had stopped to see his father, who he had found dead. Patrik called the...
