Duchess Day Radley

Duchess Day Radley is the older child of Star and Vincent. Duchess considers herself an outlaw because she is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her family. She is fiercely protective of her younger brother and tries to parent her mother at the same time.

Duchess is a dynamic character as she does a considerable amount of maturing through the course of the novel. For instance, at the beginning of the novel, Duchess believes that Walk is all good while Vincent is all evil. Duchess’s experiences teach her that no person is completely good or evil. A person is a complex mix of both.

Duchess also learns through the course of the novel that her actions often have far-reaching consequences that impact other people. Duchess is angry when her mother comes home from working a shift at Darke’s nightclub with bruises. In...
