Summary

In Chapter 43, when Duchess ran out of money for the bus in Colorado she hitched a ride with a truck driver to a small town in Utah. Even though her gut told her not to do so, she went into a bar and asked for a Coke. She realized too late she did not have enough money, but the man pushed it toward her anyway.

Duchess listened as the regulars sang, accompanied by a guitar. None of them could hold a tune. She walked to the guitar player. He asked if she wanted to sing and she nodded.
