Point of View

We Are the Ants is told in the first-person point of view through the eyes of the main protagonist, Henry Denton. This is a vital and important choice for the author to make within the scale of the narrative. First, it forces the audience to see the sluggers as something real because that is how Henry sees them until closer to the end. It also allows the reader to see the depths of Henry’s torment and understand how so many terrible things line up into one miserable experience. This helps explain why Henry does not immediately press the button even though he and the audience know that most others would do so in a heartbeat.
