Marin
Marin is the main character, narrator, and protagonist of the novel We Are Okay. The novel is written from her perspective with limited-omniscient access to her consciousness alone. She is blond with “tiny freckles across [her] cheeks” (58). Her mother [Claire Delaney] is dead, having passed due to a surfing accident when Marin was just a child. She never knew her father who she is told was from Australia. Gramps is her grandfather and the person with whom she lived for the majority of her life until she began college in New York.
Mabel was Marin’s best friend in high school, and in their senior year, they developed and acted upon romantic feelings they had for each other.
