Summary
In Chapter 13, Marin remembers a night that occurred shortly after her high school graduation when she, Mabel, and their classmates were all hanging out on the beach. They acted as if they were not all about to disperse for college. Ben played the guitar, and Marin and Mabel held hands. Now in Tommy’s cottage, Marin and Mabel again were holding each other’s hand. The night after graduation, they had all been so innocent. There is a page break.
Mabel lets go of Marin’s hand and sits up. Mabel asks where Marin went between fleeing home and coming to live in her new college dorm. Marin admits that she stayed in a motel.
