Summary
Chapter 81
Connell, working as the doorman in the summer heat, is sweltering in his uniform. He helps many of the building’s residents get to their cars for weekend getaways. Connell has good relationships with those resident who stay for the weekends. He is especially glad when Mr. Marku is away for a few days. He can read in the open then. He is friendly with Chase Shanahan the son of an investment banker who lives in the building. Connell likes have the doorman responsibilities as opposed to those of porter. He is having a hard time with the guilt he feels over abandoned his father and causing his mother extra expenses.
