Summary
Chapter 46
Uncle Phil visits. In conversation, Ed claims to be six feet tall. The three get into a debate about his height. Connell forces him to stand against the wall and be measure – five-ten and three-quarters. Ed wants to keep a knife that had a life-time guarantee. He wants to the call the company on it. Connell points out that the blade is broken off and it’s nothing but a stub. Eileen speaks up in support of Ed. She tells Connell Ed bought that when they got married. He paid a lot for it.
Chapter 47
Eileen finds herself grading more and more of Ed’s papers. Ed is spending his time gathering material for a research grant he plans to apply for. After the diagnosis, he was more anxious to get the grant. Sadly, Eileen knows that he’ll never be awarded...
