Summary

In Chapter 3, Riley finds out at work that Kevin and his partner Cameron are behind Justin’s shooting. Her boss, Scotty, puts her on the case. The next morning, Riley goes to church with Momma and her brother Shaun. Daddy could not make it. Riley enjoys the choir’s performance.

During the service, Riley notices that Jen is trying to call her. Riley is annoyed that Jen brought up their friendship on TV when she was accused of being racist. It reminds her of how years ago, Jen bragged to her white friends about having a black friend.

In college, Riley bonded with her Jamaican friend Gaby over their skin color. Riley called Gaby the night before and told her about what Jen said on TV. Gaby advised Riley to call Jen out. Riley is nervous to do so.
