Summary

In Chapter 25, Jonah and Edi lie in bed “leafing through a photo album” (171). When Ash comes in, Edi starts to say something. Afraid she will ask if they are having sex, Jonah leaves for more ice.

Edi looks at Ash as if asking if she is safe. Ash tells her she is good (172). The friends tell each other what good friends they are. Before Ash can say what she wants to say, Edi descends into confusion. Jude comes in and stays with Edi while Jonah, Alice, and Ash go for a walk. While walking, Ash realizes none of them “has been with someone when they died” (174). Like birth, death has been messier than Ash imagined. When the friends talk about what is happening, Alice says they are between “the Twilight Zone and some other fuckery” (176).
