Summary

Chapter 22 opens from Baz's perspective, then changes to Simon and then back to Baz. Baz is fighting off two vampires, but he is struggling because the magic phrases he chooses are not working. The phrase “bugger off” gets him nothing but a man in the crowd shouts “Buzz off” and Baz is surprised that the phrase works. (The man is later identified as Shepard and he is aware that this fight is real.) Baz realizes everyone is watching and stops trying to be delicate. Baz sees Simon just as an ax breaks and he uses the handle to stab the vampire through the heart. The fight rages on for several minutes until Baz, Simon, and Penny have killed all the vampires, each body erupting into dust. Everyone believes it is part of a show and Baz shouts that they will do another performance...
