Summary

In Part 1, Chapter 8, Sam goes with MH to a comedy club called the Smiley Face, which is located in a mall. It is an ‘open mic night,’ and Sam watches MH perform for five minutes. Sam has continued to text Ally daily, with still no responses from Ally. In Part 1, Chapter 9, Sam goes grocery shopping and then returns to her house on Highland Street. A homeless woman is sitting on the porch. Sam gives her some food and money. Sam feels slightly guilty about not giving the woman more, and not offering to let the woman come inside, but Sam also does not want to become further obligated to a stranger.
