Summary

In Chapter 12, Marc does pull-ups, making it clear Danny did not hurt his arm at all. Jake says Marc has to apologize to Danny and Coach Adam. Marc is upset by the idea, but Jake insists. Jake says there is never an excuse for lying. He says that lies always “come back to haunt you” and can destroy the trust he has built with his coach. Marc immediately tries to figure out how to get out of this. Jake notes that Marc made Coach Adam worry and made Danny feel bad about an injury that did not even exist. Jake notes that in the military, a lie can literally get someone killed. Marc has always known lying is bad, but this is the first time he truly realizes the cost of lies.
