Summary
In Chapter 30, Jenna scrutinized Tom’s behavior at school. She worried Bess was too attached to him.
On her way home, she noticed a boy following her. Catching her eye, he sped up, introducing himself as Freddie, Tom’s son. He asked if she knew Tom from the Lake District. Jenna was evasive. At home, she found Frances “on one of her [gang-stalking] chat rooms” (130). In her room, she stalked Bess online and researched Tom. She felt suddenly alone.
In Chapter 31, Freddie worried about his encounter with Jenna. He had not planned on talking to her. At home, he noticed Nicola’s changed demeanor after Alfie left. He returned to stalking Romola, deciding to ask her to the dance.
