Summary

In conversation with Goff, Wash tries to broach the subject of his romantic interest in Tanna, but Goff subtly rejects discussion of the subject. Goff then asks Wash if he would be willing to illustrate Goff’s newest scientific book, and Wash excitedly agrees. Wash then shares his idea of displaying live sea creatures at the exhibition in London, which has never been done before. Goff is intrigued by the idea. In Chapter 10, Wash builds a glass tank that could feasibly house marine plant and marine animal life. Later, Wash is sitting in a bar and is approached by a quietly threatening white man. Wash soon realizes that the man must be John Willard. Willard says that Erasmus Wilde has died of disease. Willard says that because he was never able to capture Wash, his reputation as a bounty hunter was...
