Emika Chen

Emika Chen is the 18-year-old protagonist of Warcross. She lives in a tiny, rundown apartment in the Bronx with her roommate Keira. Emika dyes her hair in rainbow colors as a tribute to her father - who used to do the same - after he passed away when she was 11. She also has a variety of tattoos on her arms and chest. Her idol is Hideo Tanaka, whose story inspired Emika to become a coder herself.

Emika is a fairly proficient coder who has a criminal record due to her hacking. At the beginning of the novel, she works as a bounty hunter since she is unable to find a steady job. She is very concerned about becoming homeless and Hideo's generosity quite literally changes her life.
