Summary

Iris and Maven visit Piedmont after the assault by Bracken. Maven is angry that Mare is not there, but pleased at how many of the Scarlet Guard they have captured or killed. He considers using whispers, Silvers who can control people’s thoughts and read minds, to interrogate the prisoners, but Iris is against it. When she mentions removing whispers from the court all together, Maven tells her he knows she is manipulating him. Iris hopes that she can drown him and his brother someday. A Sentinel arrives and escorts Maven and Iris to Mare’s old house. Maven is angered when the guard calls Reds and Newbloods freaks, claiming that everyone will be able to return to his kingdom when they win the war.
