Elizabeth's Apartment
Elizabeth's apartment is located in Brooklyn, New York. She lives here with her husband and two young daughters. Though they cannot afford the neighborhood, they live here so their girls can attend better schools. In the narrative present, Elizabeth and her husband often struggle to make rent. Her husband's carpentry work is unreliable, and Elizabeth's teaching jobs do not pay well.
Almost all of the scenes occurring in the apartment are replicas of one another. Elizabeth climbs down from her loft bed every morning, returns from her run, has sex in the bathroom with her husband, and rushes out to work as he gets their girls ready for school. Whenever she returns home, her husband is making dinner, and asks about her day. The apartment is a fixed setting, in which predictable daily events elapse.
