Summary
Elizabeth considers going into the room where Sasha is staying. She wants to apologize for not being there when she needed her. As she thinks of all the other things she would say, she realizes her "constant anxious ache" is most of who she is (179). When she hears Sasha using the breast pump she realizes this is not the time. She goes into the room and sits with her without saying anything. She thinks about what her children have taught her about love.
The next morning, after they take the girls to school, Elizabeth tells Sasha how scared she was when she had her first baby. They talk about the fear of motherhood. Sasha says she constantly worries about hurting her daughter. She cannot stop thinking about the first baby either.
When Elizabeth's first daughter was born, she was constantly tired and agitated...
