Summary
Elizabeth gets up too late to run, shower, or have breakfast. She keeps checking Sasha's Facebook to see if she has had the baby. She does not look pregnant in the pictures.
When Elizabeth was pregnant with the four-year-old, the doctors said she "did not have enough amniotic fluid" (94). Terrified something would happen to the baby, she did not know who to talk to.
Whenever she leaves work, Elizabeth walks endlessly. Sometimes she reads at the coffee shop. Sometimes she visits her favorite bookstore and buys books she cannot afford. Other days she visits museums.
One night, Elizabeth's grad school friends come for dinner. They all have steady jobs and make good money. One of the friends brings another friend who annoys Elizabeth for no real reason.
