Point of View

Neuvel formats this novel as a series of interviews and journal entries. Therefore, the point of view is in first person in each file because the people who are speaking in the interview or writing in their journal are the narrator in that scene. The unnamed interview is the primary narrator of the novel because he conducts most of the interviews. However, Neuvel features many other characters’ perspectives as well, including those of Rose, Vincent, Kara, Jacob Lawson, Eugene Govender, and more.

The main narrative voice shifts to Dr. Rose Franklin after the unnamed interviewer dies at the end of Part 3. This change is significant to the point of view of the novel because Neuvel can no longer implement any information that was exclusive to the interviewer.
