Scene 5 Summary
The union leader, Mr. Harry Fatts, is still up on the stage making sure that his interest is safe. This time he incorporates the help of a worker from Philadelphia named Clayton who has come to assure the rest of the cabbies that listening to Harry Fatts is truly in their best interest. Through his own personal experience in dealing with the powers that be, he was blacklisted and ultimately had to relocate to their fair city. As Fatts pointed out earlier in his introduction of Clayton "this is a man with practical strike experience."
Clayton starts to back up Fatts before a Voice from the audience calls out to Clayton asking him where he got his name. The Voice calls out to the other members again. The Voice claims that the man on the stage who calls himself Clayton is a phoney...
