Scene 4 Summary
A young girl, Florence, and her brother, Irv, argue in their home. As Florence sits and waits for her fiancé, Sid, to take her to a dance, Irv spends his time trying to convince her to give up the foolish idea of marrying poor Sid. The girl wants to know why her brother is so against Sid, who is also a cab driver because there is constant talk of strikes. Irv, for the "tenth" time, tells her that "it's not him, it's that he ain't got nothin.'" They understand that he is serious and stuck on her, but that is far from being enough. Florence speaks about a time when taxi drivers made good money, and again her brother points out the fact that all they're making now is $5 and $6 a week and that trying to raise a family on that would...
