Scene 2 Summary
As the curtain opens on the next scene, the spotlight shines between the open spaces that separate the seated men. The men are barely visible in the outer darkness. Harry Fatts is puffing on his thick cigar and blowing clouds of smoke towards Joe, who stands at center stage.
A young woman, Edna, 30 years old, comes into view. She dries her hands on the apron she's wearing. She stands there and greets her husband with a look of weariness on her face. Joe asks her where the furniture is, addressing his wife as "Honey." Edna responds to Joe that the furniture was repossessed that afternoon. Joe protests to her that they can't do that, but Edna shoots back to him with the facts. Joe retaliates that they had paid all but the last quarter of the contract, at which point Edna tells him...
